W&M Construction Chosen to Fast-Track Allied Domecq Regional Headquarters

June 1, 1999

WESTPORT, Conn. -- W&M Construction has begun work on a 32,000-square-foot regional headquarters facility here for beverage importer Allied Domecq, according to Timothy W. Yahn, vice president of the construction firm.

The project is on a fast-track schedule that calls for completion in six weeks, about half the construction time under a conventional schedule, Mr. Yahn says. "We're working 10 hours a day, six days a week to bring this in on time," he explains, noting that W&M Construction successfully competed against several other national and local general contractors to be awarded the competitively bid contract.

Allied Domecq, whose imported products include Beefeater Gin, Canadian Club, Courvoisier and Kahlua, will fully occupy an existing three-story building with an atrium at 325 Riverside Avenue, along the Saugatuck River. The building is managed by SCA Commercial Management Co.

Greg Sherwood and Dave Ludwig of W&M Construction, the project manager and field superintendent, respectively, are working closely with Hans Schuurmans of the Phillips Group, lead architect for the $1.7 million project.

W&M Construction, a full service general contractor, operates throughout the New York metropolitan area, including Fairfield and Westchester Counties, and has offices in Stamford, Conn. and in Manhattan at 1185 Avenue of the Americas. W&M Construction is an affiliate of W&M Properties, the real estate management, marketing and acquisition arm of the Malkin family, which has commercial and residential operations in seven states.
