For One Stamford Resident, Christmas Came Early, Thanks to W&M Construction

STAMFORD, Conn. - For the fourth consecutive year, W&M Construction assembled a group of volunteers to improve the home of an elderly resident, as part of the Rebuilding Together (formerly called Christmas in April) program. The 2002 beneficiary was Stamford resident Dorothy Pittsinger.

Under the leadership of W&M Construction, volunteers completely renovated her bathroom, made various repairs, installed a new door, and cleaned up her yard and planted flowers. The project was completed on Saturday, April 27.

"It's very gratifying to upgrade the homes of the elderly or needy and make a difference in their lives," says Timothy W. Yahn, senior vice president of W&M Construction. "This kind of service is very much in keeping with W&M Construction's belief in the obligation to give something back to the communities in which we operate."

Besides W&M Construction employees and members of their families, this year's cadre of volunteers also included staff members from two vendors, B&G Plumbing, Milford, Conn., and Michael Ross Painting, Greenwich, Conn.

Rebuilding Together is a national organization, with more than 230 local affiliates, that relies on volunteers to rehabilitate homes of low-income, elderly and disabled people who cannot afford to pay for needed upkeep or who cannot do the work themselves. This year, the Stamford-Greenwich affiliate will improve 44 homes in those communities, according to Executive Director Ceia Webb.
